The first precept in the ‘Discourse of the Method’ demands, never accept anything for true which I did not clearly know to be such. This age old skepticism essentially changed the development of modern science by forcing scientists to start finding out things for themselves rather than relying solely on authority. So how to I apply this precept to these circumstances? How do I go about finding out my truth about the crisis at home?
First, it means I must reject the force of truth advocated by the losing winner, and remain skeptical of the vehement truth of the winning loser. I must find a truth that is that acceptable by all peace loving; tax paying, socially responsible voting Kenyans. I have one proposal on the nature of this truth, a real simple truth: The pursuit of national happiness. But what does national happiness mean? How is it defined and measured?
Let me talk about one of the most inspiring movies released in 2006, “The Pursuit of Happyness” starring Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. My title for the Section borrows from this title.
